ASC LLP, Mumbai, supplies ASTM B265 Grade 2 titanium plates, sheet and strip – commercially pure titanium, UNS R50400, DIN / W.Nr. 3.7035 – to ASTM B265 and ASME SB265. Thicknesses run from 0.5 mm sheet to 100 mm plate, in full sheets or cut to size, with EN 10204 3.1 certificates. See our full titanium range.
What Are ASTM B265 Grade 2 Titanium Plates?
ASTM B265 is the standard for titanium and titanium-alloy strip, sheet and plate. Grade 2 is the most widely used commercially pure (CP) titanium grade. It gives the best balance of strength, ductility, weldability and corrosion resistance among CP grades. It weighs about 57% as much as steel, and its 345 MPa minimum tensile strength is similar to many carbon steels.

Where Grade 2 Titanium Works – and When to Use Another Grade
- Ideal: seawater and brine, chlor-alkali and bleach plants, nitric acid, many organic acids and oxidising chlorides.
- Use Grade 7 or 12 instead: hot reducing acids (HCl, H₂SO₄) and hot brines where crevice corrosion is a risk.
- Avoid: hydrofluoric acid and fluorides, dry chlorine gas and red fuming nitric acid.
- Temperature: CP Grade 2 is normally used up to about 300 – 350 °C in pressure equipment.

Heat Treatment & Fabrication
- Annealing: Grade 2 plate is supplied annealed; stress-relieving after heavy forming is typically done at about 480 – 595 °C.
- Welding: TIG / plasma with trailing and back-purge argon shielding; a bright silver or light straw colour indicates a sound weld.
- Cleanliness: keep free of iron contamination – use dedicated titanium tools and storage.

Frequently Asked Questions – ASTM B265 Grade 2 Titanium Plates
What is ASTM B265 Grade 2 titanium?
ASTM B265 Grade 2 is commercially pure titanium (UNS R50400, DIN 3.7035) in strip, sheet and plate form. It is the most widely used CP grade, with a minimum tensile strength of 345 MPa and excellent corrosion resistance.
What are the mechanical properties of Grade 2 titanium plate?
ASTM B265 requires Grade 2 to have a minimum tensile strength of 345 MPa (50 ksi), a yield strength between 275 and 450 MPa (40–65 ksi) and a minimum elongation of 20%.
What is the difference between titanium sheet and plate in ASTM B265?
In ASTM B265, sheet is under 4.76 mm (0.1875 in) thick, while plate is 4.76 mm and thicker. Strip is under 4.76 mm thick and under 610 mm wide.
What is the DIN equivalent of Grade 2 titanium?
Grade 2 titanium is DIN / W.Nr. 3.7035 and UNS R50400.
Is Grade 2 titanium suitable for seawater?
Yes. Grade 2 titanium is practically immune to seawater and brine corrosion and does not suffer chloride stress-corrosion cracking. For hot brines with crevice risk, Grade 7 or 12 is preferred.
Can you supply Grade 2 titanium plate cut to size?
Yes. ASC LLP supplies full plates and sheets as well as cut blanks, circles and strips to drawing, with EN 10204 3.1 certificates.
