All sizes are supplied, cut to length, with mill test certificates and export packing.

What Are Boiler Tubes?

Boiler tubes are seamless or welded steel tubes that carry water, steam or hot gases inside a boiler, economiser, superheater or reheater. Because they work under high pressure and temperature, they are made to dedicated specifications (ASTM/ASME, BS, EN) that control chemistry, strength and testing. The grade is chosen by the metal temperature and pressure of each boiler section: carbon steel for lower-temperature parts, chromium-molybdenum alloy steel for superheaters and reheaters.

In a water-tube boiler water flows inside the tubes and hot gases outside – used for power plants and high-pressure industrial boilers. In a fire-tube boiler hot gases pass through the tubes inside a water shell – used for lower-pressure heating and process steam.

Carbon Steel Boiler Tubes

Carbon steel boiler tubes are used where metal temperatures stay below roughly 425–450 °C – water walls, economisers, low-temperature superheaters and heat exchangers. A179 is a soft, cold-drawn tube for heat exchangers; A192 is its high-pressure boiler equivalent; A210 A-1 and A210 C add more carbon and manganese for higher strength; A178 and A214 are economical ERW options.

Alloy Steel Boiler Tubes (ASTM A213)

For superheaters and reheaters, chromium-molybdenum alloy steel boiler tubes to ASTM A213 / ASME SA213 keep their strength and resist oxidation at higher temperatures. T11 (1¼Cr-½Mo) and T22 (2¼Cr-1Mo) are the workhorse grades; T91 and T92 (9Cr) are creep-strength-enhanced grades for the hottest sections of modern power plants.

BS 3059 Boiler Tubes

We also supply BS 3059 Grade 320, BS 3059 Part 1 (low-tensile carbon steel) and BS 3059 Part 2 (carbon, Cr-Mo and austenitic steels for high-temperature service).

How to Choose the Right Boiler Tube Grade

Boiler section Typical metal temperature Usual grades
Economiser Below ≈ 400 °C A178, A192, A210 A-1, BS 3059 Part 1
Water wall / furnace ≈ 350 – 450 °C A192, A210 A-1 / C, T11
Low-temperature superheater ≈ 450 – 540 °C A210 C, T11, T12
High-temperature superheater / reheater ≈ 540 – 600 °C T22, T23
Final superheater (ultra-supercritical) ≈ 600 – 620 °C+ T91, T92, austenitic grades
Heat exchanger / condenser Low A179, A214

Temperatures are typical guidance only – the design code and stress calculations decide the grade. Our team can help match grade to pressure and temperature.

Frequently Asked Questions – Boiler Tubes

What are boiler tubes made of?

Boiler tubes are made of carbon steel (ASTM A178, A179, A192, A210) for lower-temperature sections, and chromium-molybdenum alloy steel (ASTM A213 T11, T22, T91, T92) for superheaters and reheaters. The grade depends on operating temperature and pressure.

What is the difference between A179 and A192 boiler tubes?

Both are seamless low-carbon steel tubes with similar chemistry. A179 is cold drawn for heat exchangers and condensers, while A192 is intended for high-pressure boiler service.

Which boiler tube grade is used for superheaters?

Low-temperature superheaters commonly use A210 C or T11; higher-temperature superheaters and reheaters use T22, T91 or T92 depending on metal temperature.

What is the difference between seamless and ERW boiler tubes?

Seamless tubes have no weld and are used for high-pressure service (A192, A210, A213). ERW tubes (A178, A214) are welded from strip and are an economical choice for lower-pressure boilers, economisers and heat exchangers.

Do you supply IBR-certified boiler tubes?

Yes. ASC LLP supplies boiler tubes with IBR certification as well as EN 10204 3.1 / 3.2 certificates and third-party inspection on request.

Are U-bent boiler and heat exchanger tubes available?

Yes. We supply U-bent tubes in A179, A214, A213 and other grades to drawing.
