A513 1026 Tubes – ASTM A513 Grade 1026 Carbon Steel ERW & DOM Mechanical Tubing
ASC LLP, Mumbai, supplies A513 1026 tubes – ASTM A513 Grade 1026 electric-resistance-welded carbon steel mechanical tubing. It is available as-welded (ERW) or drawn over mandrel (DOM), in round and shaped sections, cut to length, with mill test certificates. See our DOM tubes and carbon steel tubes ranges.
What are A513 1026 Tubes?
ASTM A513 is the specification for electric-resistance-welded (ERW) carbon and alloy steel mechanical tubing – tubing made for machine parts, cylinders and structures rather than for pressure piping. Grade 1026 is a medium-low carbon steel with 0.22 – 0.28% carbon and 0.60 – 0.90% manganese. It has the highest strength of the common A513 grades (1008, 1010, 1015, 1020, 1026), while still welding and machining well.
A513 tube is always welded – it is not seamless. For seamless mechanical tubing, see ASTM A519.
A513 1026 – Quick Facts
- Specification: ASTM A513, Grade 1026 (SAE / AISI 1026)
- Types: Type 1 as-welded (hot-rolled strip), Type 2 as-welded (cold-rolled strip), Type 5 DOM
- Conditions: as-welded, normalised, as-drawn, drawn and stress-relieved
- Shapes: round; square and rectangular on request
- Certificate: mill test certificate (EN 10204 3.1)

Features of A513 Grade 1026 Tubing
- Higher strength than 1020: extra carbon and manganese give about 10 – 15 ksi more yield strength in the same condition.
- Good weldability and machinability: still a low-to-medium carbon steel – easy to weld, bend and machine.
- Close tolerances in DOM form: drawing over a mandrel gives accurate OD, ID and wall and a smooth bore.
- Choice of condition: as-drawn for maximum strength, stress-relieved or normalised for better ductility and machining.
- Corrosion: plain carbon steel – supplied oiled; paint, plate or coat for outdoor use.

Frequently Asked Questions – A513 1026 Tubes
What is A513 1026 tubing?
A513 1026 is ASTM A513 electric-resistance-welded mechanical tubing made from SAE 1026 carbon steel (0.22–0.28% C, 0.60–0.90% Mn). It is supplied as-welded or drawn over mandrel (DOM) and is the highest-strength common A513 grade.
Is A513 1026 tubing seamless?
No. ASTM A513 covers only electric-resistance-welded tubing. Seamless mechanical tubing is made to ASTM A519.
What is the yield strength of A513 1026?
Per the A513 property tables, minimum yield is 45 ksi (310 MPa) as-welded, 70 ksi (483 MPa) for DOM as-drawn and 65 ksi (448 MPa) for DOM stress-relieved. Normalised tube has a minimum yield of 40 ksi (276 MPa).
What is the difference between 1020 and 1026 tubing?
1026 has more carbon (0.22–0.28% vs 0.18–0.23%) and more manganese (0.60–0.90% vs 0.30–0.60%), giving roughly 10 ksi higher yield strength in the same condition. 1020 is slightly easier to form and weld.
What is the difference between A513 Type 1 and Type 5?
Type 1 is as-welded tubing made from hot-rolled strip. Type 5 is DOM – the welded tube is cold drawn over a mandrel, giving tighter tolerances, a smoother inside surface and higher strength.
What is A513 1026 tubing used for?
Common uses are hydraulic cylinder barrels, drive shafts, axle tubes, steering and suspension parts, machinery shafts, rollers, bushings and equipment frames.
