Which Fittings Match ASTM A53 Grade B Pipe?

ASTM A53 is a pipe specification only – there is no fitting standard called “A53”. “A53 Grade B fittings” are fittings made from a compatible carbon steel to a fitting specification:

Key Features of A53 Grade B Carbon Steel Fittings

  • Matched strength: WPB (415 MPa) and A105 (485 MPa) meet or exceed the 415 MPa tensile strength of A53 B pipe.
  • Weldable carbon steel: butt-weld and socket-weld fittings weld to A53 B pipe with standard procedures.
  • Seamless or welded: WPB fittings up to about 24″ are usually seamless; larger sizes are welded (WPB-W) with radiography.
  • Schedule-matched: butt-weld fittings are supplied in the same schedule as the pipe (SCH 10 to XXS).
  • Finish: black varnish, rust-preventive oil or hot-dip galvanised. Carbon steel is not corrosion-resistant – coat or galvanise for wet service.

Which fittings should be used with A53 Grade B pipe?
